Lovingly Growing Garden 2014

Pictures by the month of the growing garden.

OCTOBER 2014:

October 10, 2014: We bid adieu to the okra. Radishes are flourishing in the cool fall weather. And the snow peas are producing like crazy right now despite only being about 2.5 ft tall (in the back bed).

SEPTEMBER 2014:

September 30, 2014: Seedlings are finally really visible. Asparagus beans are taking over their trellis. Tomatoes have been cut down (just need to remove the "trunk" and roots). More seeding coming soon!

September 18, 2014: First bed is sparse with just a hint of seedlings peeking up. Second bed is sharing the very last of its summer crops.

AUGUST 2014:

August 29, 2014: The front bed is ready for seeding. There are a few green bean plants, some new Asparagus beans and some baby pumpkin plants fighting the good fight. The back bed recently added snow peas as the remains of our summer crop begin to slow down.

August 16, 2014: The bed in the forefront is getting ready for a fall crop. Recently planted some small pumpkins and some asparagus yardlong beans. The bed in the back is still cranking out summer crops.

JULY 2014:

July 27, 2014: The summer heat and humidity is stifling. Between that and the bugs, it feels like we are losing the garden battle some days. Determinate tomatoes are finishing up, peppers are turning colors and the indeterminate tomatoes are just starting to ripen. Cucumbers are bug laden every time I look and looks like the squash vine borer might have had a go at my butternut squash too.

July 27, 2014: The summer heat and humidity is stifling. Between that and the bugs, it feels like we are losing the garden battle some days.  No point in added plants/seeds now because the heat is too overwhelming for a baby plant.  Going to keep harvesting what we have coming (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and okra) and start thinking ahead to another planting when the heat breaks a bit.

Sugar Snap peas and radishes are gone. Beets and carrots are dwindling. Squash and Zucchini we lost to squash vine borers. But with empty spots come the hope of new crops! The tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers are hitting their stride.
